Hi Pamela,

The Critical Care capsules are enteric-coated to bypass the stomach acid that may inhibit absorption. Changing the delivery method will slightly alter the effectiveness; however, your six-year-old is probably still getting a sufficient amount of the probiotic. To make it a little easier, you could always try our Ultimate Flora 200 Billion formula, which is already in a powdered form. Although each packet contains 200 billion strains of probiotic, you could simply use a quarter of the packet, while keeping the remainder of the packet refridgerated for maximum effectiveness.

My 6 year old (49 lbs.) cannot swallow the Ultimate Flora Critical Care capsule.  She doesn't mind if I open it and put it on her tongue or in her breakfast. Does opening the capsule change the effectiveness?
